DON'T forget to turn back your car clock on October 28, when British summertime ends and at the same time give your car a thorough pre-winter clean and check. That's the advice from Autonational Rescue, which offers a hit list of car maintenance jobs which will help give your vehicle a timely overhaul.

The list includes checking tyre tread and pressures, especially important when the car is carrying extra weight; checking oil levels, particularly before and after long journeys; checking all lights, brakes and indicators; checking the condition of the battery and its levels; and washing away dirt, grime and rock-salt, especially under the vehicle where it can do long-term damage.
