TRIBUTES have been pouring in following the sudden death of Kent-born TV and radio sports commentator Brian Moore at the age of 69.

Mr Moore, a one-time director of Gillingham Football Club, was a former head boy at Cranbrook School.

His commentating career lasted more than 30 years. He died on Saturday morning at his home in Kent only hours before England's 5-1 win over Germany in Munich.

Mr Moore was a radio sports commentator with the BBC before becoming a broadcaster in 1968 when he joined London Weekend Television. He became the figurehead of ITV's football coverage until his retirement after the World Cup in 1998. He later worked for Sky.

Although Brian Moore loved football he was also a fanatical cricket fan.

John Motson, who as a football commentator for the BBC worked for many years as Moore’s chief competitor, said: "He was a fantastic big-match commentator.”
