A Hollywood star and some of the country’s most acclaimed artists were among those present at the star-studded launch of Margate artist Tracey Emin’s latest exhibition.

'Tracey Emin: 20 Years,’ the exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh is the 45 year-old’s first retrospective collection.

It charts the controversial artist’s career from the late 1980s to the present day and features examples of Emin’s work including paintings, drawings and her infamous unmade bed installation.

British actor and Canterbury born Orlando Bloom joined Scottish author Ian Rankin and artist Sam Taylor Wood for the opening night.

The exhibition, which spans the entire ground floor of the National Gallery, brings together artworks loaned from public and private collections from across the world.

It runs until November 9 before moving to galleries in Málaga, Spain, and Bern, Switzerland.

Smash hit

Meanwhile, a major art exhibition, curated by Tracey Emin, has been voted a smash hit -for all the wrong reasons.

It wasn’t just the calm atmosphere of the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition in London which was shattered when a visitor fell into a cordoned off area. The visitor crashed into a nine feet tall sculpture, smashing it into hundreds of pieces.

The sculpture was one of five created by Costa Rican artist Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez and is thought be worth around £6,000.
