A shrine of flowers has been made at the scene of a road crash that claimed the life of a popular grammar schoolgirl.

Sophie Harrison, 18, was a passenger in a Land Rover Discovery which overturned at the London Road roundabout in Canterbury on Saturday evening.

Five other teenagers escaped with minor injuries but the student from Queen Elizabeth's Grammar in Faversham was critically injured and airlifted to a London hospital.

She died two days later with her family at her bedside.

The death of Sophie, who lived with her parents Martin and Christine in Beech Close, Faversham, has devastated family and friends.

Although it was half-term, the school opened on Monday where around 40 students met to talk to staff.

Deputy head teacher Chris Care said: "Sophie was a vivacious and lively member of the school, always willing to partake in school activities and charity events.
