BRITAIN'S first abseil off a submarine is being organised by the Kent Walking Bus Project.

Former Cold War submarine HMS Ocelot, now in dry dock at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, will be the venue for this highly unusual challenge.

The Walking Bus Project will be the main beneficiary of the proceeds with the Medway Cerebral Palsy Unit receiving 20 per cent of the charity pot. Funding from the event will enable extra Walking Buses to be set up.

Ninety brave souls are needed for the challenge, which will take place on Sunday, August 13.

This is believed to be the first time an abseil has been attempted off a submarine in Britain.

To take part, download the entry form on this page and pledge to raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship. You will be sent an abseil pack giving full details of the event and top fund-raisers will be invited to abseil from the tower, the highest point of the sub.

Others will abseil from the deck of the sub into the dry dock. The Pentagon Shopping Centre and Specsavers are sponsoring the event.

For an entry coupon and more details go to www.kentwalkingbus.org, or call Simon Dolby on 07989 164 752.
