Village plea for safer crossing

WORRIED neighbours got together to plead for safer crossings on the main road through their village.

The impromptu meeting followed an accident on the A228 at Cuxton, which left a two-year-old boy with serious injuries.

The accident happened on Wednesday afternoon, near the White Hart pub. Dozens of villagers gathered there on Friday to get their campaign going.

Landlady Shirley Allen said: “Every day I hear screeching brakes outside my pub, when the accident happened, I knew we had to do something.”

The toddler, who has not been named but is believed to live locally, was apparently crossing the road with his mother when he was hit by a lorry.

There is no suggestion the lorry was speeding.
