Volunteers saving rare marsh plants

BOG pimpernel, lesser centaury, saw sedge and marsh willowherb are some of the plants beginning to thrive in the fossil pits at Dungeness, thanks to ongoing conservation work by the Romney Marsh Countryside Project.

A group of volunteers joined the project at the RSPB reserve on Dungeness Road for the clean-up.

They have been clearing scrub from the edge of one of the pits for four years. In that time, they have seen numbers of the scarce plants increase.
