Commuter Ula Griggs was caught on the hop when she encountered a wallaby crossing the road.
The stunned motorist saw the creature first stop in the middle of the road and then bounce across at Bell Lane, just outside Pluckley.
Miss Griggs, of North Road, Hythe, remarked: "It’s not to sort of thing you see every day."
The 30-year-old spotted the animal at 7.30am Wednesday.
The animal had caused a tailback when four cars in front of Miss Griggs stopped as it stood in the middle of the road before springing into woodland.
She said: "At first I thought it was a deer but then it bounced and deer don’t do that.
"It also had a big tail and big feet and was 3 to 4ft tall. Having checked on the internet I’m 100 per cent certain it was a wallaby."
Wallabies can be found in the wild in Britain and in 2000 Wesley the wallaby (pictured) escaped from Badgers Hill Farm in Chilham.
