Gritter lorries deployed on primary routes in Kent as road surface temperatures fall

Gritter lorries will be out in Kent tonight as temperatures are expected to fall below freezing.

All primary routes across the county are being treated between 7pm and 4am to prevent ice and frost forming on roads.

Kent County Council says it expects the road surface temperature to reach a minimum of -4.9C creating slippery conditions.

Drivers are being advised to watch out for icy patches, particularly on untreated roads, overnight and into tomorrow morning.

They are also being warned to drive cautiously and slower than usual to avoid harsh braking, steering and acceleration which are key factors in skidding on ice and snow.
