People are being warned to avoid high-risk areas and take care on the coast as more flooding is expected.

Several flood alerts have been issued for parts of Kent for high tide this afternoon, with the Environment Agency urging residents to "be prepared".

The areas affected include the Isle of Sheppey and the coast from Kemsley to Seasalter including Faversham, the Medway Estuary and Isle of Grain, the coast from Dartford to Allhallows and the stretch from Whitstable to Margate.

It comes after several parts of the county experienced flooding during yesterday afternoon's high tide.

The banks of Faversham Creek burst at around lunchtime, causing water to gush into surrounding roads.

Elsewhere, the busy one-way system near Strood retail park flooded, as did part of Gravesend Promenade after the banks of the River Thames burst.

High tide will reach Sheerness at 1.45pm today, but it is not expected to be as high as yesterday.

North-westerly winds and tidal surges are forecast between 1pm and 3pm, when water levels may overtop coastal defences and foreshores.

The area at greatest risk is Front Brents at Faversham Creek.

Properties are not expected to flood, but the Environment Agency says it is keeping a close eye on the situation.
