Gale-force winds are set to lash the county from tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the South of England and parts of Wales, with a spell of disruptive winds likely from midday Monday to Tuesday morning.

Gusts of around 40 to 50 mph are expected with some as high as 65mph on hills and some coastal areas.

It is thought some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, while high-sided vehicles could be affected on exposed routes and bridges.

Damage to outdoor temporary structures is also possible.

The winds are expected to be accompanied by some heavy rain at times, and should gradually ease through Tuesday morning.

It comes as April was declared the coldest on record but also the second sunniest ever.

Yesterday saw the lowest ever temperature recorded on a May Day weekend since the holiday was introduced in 1978, with -5.8C recorded at 6am in Shap, Cumbria.

An Atlantic storm has brought with it strong winds and rain, with showers expected fro 14 hours from 11am tomorrow.
