Welling slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Weston-super-Mare as the home side scored twice in the first half on Saturday in Blue Square Bet South.

Sahr Kabba put Weston ahead after 14 minutes, outpacing centre-half Ben Martin to finish from a tight angle beyond returning on-loan Charlton keeper Nick Pope.

Nat Pepperell doubled the lead from the penalty spot on 35 minutes after Welling defender Andy Sambrook (pictured) - in for the injured Jack Obersteller - was penalised for a late challenge.

Welling found their first half chances limited, but substitute Warren McBean had arguably Wings’ best chance of the second half. His initial effort was blocked by keeper Lloyd Irish, but his attempt at a cute lob on the rebound sailed harmlessly over the bar.

On-loan Gillingham full-back Jack Evans went close late on with a skimming 20-yard shot past the post, but Welling created little on an afternoon which saw them drop to third in Blue Square South behind Chelmsford.

To add to their misery, skipper Jack Parkinson picked up his 10th booking of the season and will now serve a two-match ban.

Jamie Day’s men will hope to bounce back when they return to action at home to Havant & Waterlooville on Tuesday night.

Bromley were denied a draw at league leaders Woking in the seventh minute of stoppage time. The Lillywhites looked to have done enough to grab a point after clawing their way back from 2-0 down through a Danny Waldren penalty on 74 minutes and substitute Orlando Smith’s 87th-minute strike.

But Woking’s Joe McNerney had the last laugh with virtually the last kick of the game.

His rasping free-kick beat keeper Bromley Joe Welch - on loan from Ebbsfleet - to seal a dramatic win. Earlier, Wayne Gray and Paris Cowan-Hall scored either side of the break to put Woking into a 2-0 lead.
