Wadanhalugeder Chandrasekera was not present at Maidstone Crown Court

A WIFE’S guilty plea to the manslaughter of her husband by diminished responsibility has been accepted by the prosecution.

Wadanhalugeder Chandrasekera, 58, admitted the charge in January but the Crown Prosecution Service indicated that she would be tried for murder on July 10.

Alan Kent, prosecuting, told Mr Justice Fulford at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday that he was now in a position to accept the plea.

Chandrasekera, of Port Close, Bearsted, killed her husband Sarath on October 23 last year. He died in hospital from multiple injuries inflicted by an axe.

Chandrasekera, who is in custody, was not present in court when the judge adjourned sentence until July 14, saying he needed reports because of the gravity of the offence.
