William Fox-Pitt said he was ‘honoured’ to have been named in the Great Britain Eventing team for his fourth Olympic Games.

The 43-year-old - whose family are from Knowlton Court near Eastry - helped GB claim a team bronze in Beijing four years ago and claimed team gold aswell as an individual silver medal at the 2010 World Championships.

Fox-Pitt (pictured) will ride Lionheart at the Olympic event in Greenwich Park from July 28 to August 9 and said: "It’s a great honour and a privilege to be selected for the British team.

"It’s particularly exciting as its London and I can’t wait for the Games to get started and experience the London Olympics."

He added: "It’s very exciting to be part of such a strong team. Lionheart is a phenomenal horse and an incredible athlete with a great temperament and he’ll be able to cope with Greenwich perfectly."

However there was disappointment for Canterbury-based Guy Williams, 40, who was omitted from the five-strong team chosen by the British Equestrian Federation, though could yet be named a reserve for London.
