A severe weather warning has been issued for strong winds.

Gusts are set to hit Kent today, potentially damaging trees and buildings and disrupting power supplies and travel.

Wind speeds of between 60 and 70mph could hit in places, with exposed coastal areas facing gales of up to 80mph.

The strongest winds are expected mid-evening through to the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The Met Office says the forecast remains uncertain at the moment, but many areas are expected to be affected by spells of wet and windy weather.

The yellow "be aware" warning is in place from 6am to just before midnight tonight.
