Woman and dog die in horrific accident

AN ELDERLY woman was killed when she was struck by a car while out walking her dog. The car, a Toyota MR2, collided with a pick-up truck on the A259 between Dymchurch and Hythe and then mounted the pavement where it hit the 74-year-old woman.

The tragedy happened close to the junction of Marine Avenue, Dymchurch, at about 3.45pm on Saturday. The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, died along with her dog. It is understood the woman lived locally.

The driver of the Toyota was arrested and taken to Folkestone Police Station where he was bailed. Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to telephone Folkestone police on 01303 850055.
