A woman died today when her car hit an articulated truck carrying 7,000 chickens.

Police were called to the incident at 4.55am on the A28, Hastings Road near Rolvenden.

A foreign green and white Mercedes-Benz lorry hit a silver Vauxhall Vectra on a bend near the World of Water garden store.

The 50-year-old victim driver of the Vauxhall died at the scene and her 23-year-old male passenger sustained minor injury.

The driver of the lorry was unhurt.

Police closed the road until around 1pm today to remove the lorry and examine the scene.
