Woman in flat blaze tragedy is named

A WOMAN who died in hospital after she was unable to escape from her burning flat in Luton Road, Chatham, on Monday has been identified.

She was Julie Girling, aged 40, who lived alone. She was overcome by smoke and flames in her third-floor apartment.

Ms Girling was rescued by firefighters but died of her injuries later at Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the tragedy.

The emergency services were called to the flat at about 2.55pm on Monday.
