A WOMAN police officer is in a critical condition after an accident while responding to an emergency call early today.

Firefighters took more than an hour to cut the 30-year-old woman from her patrol car after it collided with a white van in Bromley.

It was on its way to a separate accident in Chislehurst but a police spokesman could not confirm whether the siren and lights were on.

He added that traffic officers will be considering whether the bad weather was a contributing factor.

The woman suffered a broken pelivs and femur after the incident at the junction of Heathfield Road and Westerham Road, Keston, at about 7.40am.

She was taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital by ambulance because it was too windy for the air ambulance to fly.

The 29-year-old police driver is also in hospital with rib injuries.

Both families are at their bedsides and Bromley police borough commander Ch Supt Martin Greensalde and Supt Matt Bell have already visited this morning.

The driver of the white van suffered minor injuries but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The officers were responding to an accident in Prince Imperial Road, Chislehurst, in which two cars collided with a JCB digger, causing minor injuries to the passengers.
