A competition to find the best young chefs led to some tasty dishes and a win for one Cranbook school.

Angley School produced the overall winner, pupil Zipporah Santer, in this year’s Young Masterchef competition, held at the school.

The annual event, held on Thursday, marked the start of this year’s Cranbrook and Tenterden Food and Drink Festival.

Eight schools took part – including Sandhurst Primary School, Bethany School, Tenterden Junior School, and Homewood School – with 35 chefs aged seven to 18 preparing a selection of dishes on this year’s theme of apples and pears.

The contestants had to impress head judge and restaurateur Mark Colley, along with Chris Bower from Thackeray’s Restaurant in Tunbridge Wells, and Jeff Moody from Elvy Farm, Pluckley.

The Kent produce was supplied by Waitrose in Tenterden.

Winner Zipporah, whose prize includes a chance to cook a meal with top chefs at Richard Phillips at Chapel Down restaurant, Smallhythe, near Tenterden, also won the Key Stage 3 category.

Other category winners included James Clark (Angley); Jonathan Rawlins (Bethany); and Tom Featherstone (Sandhurst).
