A SKATE park for young villagers has been given the go-ahead.

Members of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council's area two planning committee agreed that the council should fund half of the £20,000 park, which will be built off Wrotham Road, Borough Green.

The parish councils of Borough Green, Wrotham and Platt have agreed to fund the other half together.

Trodell Plant, Borough Green Road, Ightham, has offered to carry out £6,000 worth of groundwork on the project for free.

Mike Taylor, who has co-ordinated the youngsters' 14-month campaign for a skate park, said: "This is absolute magic. There has been a dearth of things to do for young people, particularly in rural areas."

The youngsters will help to design and build the ramps in the park, which is expected to open in a couple of months.
