A long-established logistics company has moved into hiring staff for clients.

Alan Firmin Ltd, which has specialised in road transport and distribution for more than 75 years, has set up Firmin Recruit as an independently-owned employment business to find staff for clients across Kent and Medway.

The new enterprise is based at a seven-acre site in Kemsley Fields Business Park, Sittingbourne, where Firmin moved to a year ago. Firmin’s directors said they wanted to give something back to the community and decided the creation of a division to specialise in finding work - both permanent and temporary jobs - for local people was the perfect way to do it.

Using its parent company’s experience and resources in logistics, Firmin Recruit initially focused on skills in driving and logistics but is expanding into other sectors. It has six divisions covering driving and industrial, commercial and sales, engineering and technical, finance and accountancy, information technology, catering and hospitality. The company’s vision is “to create a business that can provide all types of personnel services and to serve the whole county.”

Director Michael Firmin said: “We are very excited about the launch of this new venture. Firmin Recruit intends to give the same high quality service that our customers in other parts of our business have come to expect from us. We look forward to expanding our client base throughout the region.”

Alan Firmin is nominated for the Business Commitment to the Environment Award
