Andy Barcham has got more than he bargained for after joining Gillingham this season.
The forward joined the Gills to gain first team experience but he’ll end the season with a Wembley appearance, a haul of goals and a player of the year runner-up award.
Barcham (pictured right), who dropped down from Premiership side Spurs to join the Gills, is now hoping he can complete a successful season with a promotion winning medal.
He said: “The gaffer said to me when I first came here that we’re looking for promotion and we’ve got the ability in the squad to do that.
“It was a shame that we didn’t go up automatically but this is a great way to do it and for us to play at Wembley will be a great day. If we can get the result we want it would be tremendous.”
Barcham, who is a free agent in the summer, is now hoping to end what has been a great season personally on a high.
“We’ve heard how many tickets have been sold,” he said. “It adds to the day and the occasion and it’s not every day we’re going to be playing infront of a crowd like that, so it’s going to be one to remember, but we have to think about the game and if we get the result we want it would be great to celebrate with everyone who travelled.”
