Andy Barcham was left out of the Gillingham side on Tuesday night with ankle problems after manager Andy Hessenthaler admitted it was holding him back.
The player (pictured) himself spoke with Hessenthaler about his recent form and he was pleased to see the winger open up about his concerns.
Hessenthaler said: “He says he hasn’t been himself after coming back (from injury) and the lad is honest.
“He doesn’t feel like he’s firing on all cylinders and we know what Barcham is all about.
"He has pace, he’s clever and he goes past people but he admitted to me that at the moment he doesn’t feel he can get past anybody and people are going past him.
“At least he’s being honest that he doesn’t feel right. We just need to get that right and get him firing because he is a very good player.
“We said to him he just needs to keep playing and he’ll get through it.”
Barcham will receive another injection in the ankle to alleviate problems with scar tissue and the management team hope to have him fit again for this weekend.
