Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler believes new signing Paolo Gazzaniga, pictured, can push Ross Flitney all the way for the No.1 goalkeeping jersey at Priestfield.

The 6ft 5in 19-year-old Argentinian, who has been on trial at Priestfield after being released by Spanish club Valencia's youth team, has signed a two-year contract after being recommended to the Gillingham boss by agent Gary Pearce.

Hessenthaler told the club's official website: "He (Gazzaniga) can become a very good keeper and looks likely to give Ross Flitney a big challenge for the No.1 jersey.

"Let's not forget we also have Daren Hawkes, so we now have good competition in that department."
