Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has revealed the club are trying to bring Chris Whelpdale back to Priestfield on loan.

The 22-year-old Peterborough midfielder joined the Gills on loan in November - playing four games and scoring three goals as he helped them end their long barren away spell with wins at Oxford, Barnet and Macclesfield.

Speaking on KentOnline's live Q&A on Monday evening, Hessenthaler told us: "We have made an enquiry about him being available on loan until the end of the season and that could be a possibility as he is not playing at this present time."

Whelpdale has not featured for Peterborough since the 3-2 defeat at Charlton last month and would provide a welcome addition as the Gills hope to make the the top three in League 2.

Hessenthaler also told fans that there is no chance of Charlie Lee returning to the Gills as he is now playing regularly for promotion-chasing Posh in League 1.
