Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has admitted that he has potential targets in mind if Simeon Jackson is sold in the next month.

Jackson, pictured, has one year left on his Gills contract and has been heavily linked with a move away from Priestfield during the summer.

Norwich and Southampton are believed to be heading the clubs vying for his signature but they have failed to match Gillingham’s valuation of the striker.

It has left Hessenthaler’s plans in limbo, and he revealed that he is already working on replacing Jackson, even though he hasn’t been sold yet.

"You need to have two ways of thinking," said Hessenthaler. "If he stays then we want to bring someone in with him as we haven’t got loads of options. If he goes, then we may need to look to bring two in, it all depends on what type of finance we get."

Hessenthaler continues to monitor out of contract Barnet striker John O’Flynn, but has assured Gillingham supporters that they will get a striker in of suitable stature before the start of the season.

"O’Flynn has been mentioned and we are talking (to him) but he is on trial at a Championship club," Hessenthaler said.

"We’re looking around and we’ve got to keep doing it, we won’t get frustrated as we know there will be players out there that will end up signing for Gillingham."
