Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler cursed the one lapse in concentration that proved costly at Wycombe.
A goal from a set-piece separated the two promotion-chasing sides at Adams Park.
Hessenthaler, pictured, said: “We were unfortunate in the end because we did pile the pressure on.
“The only disappointing thing for us is that we do work very hard on set plays, for and against, and that’s what has ended up costing us the three points in the end.
“From the corner their man has got in front and it’s gone against the bar and we dropped a lad and he has put it away. Then we have a chance at the other end where we hit the bar. It doesn’t drop to us, it drops to their defender and he clears it.
“We are disappointed that we conceded from a set-play but I thought we looked a bit tired. They have played the same amount of games as well but, especially in the first half, we didn’t really get going,”
Hessenthaler refused to be over-critical of his side after their five-game winning run came to an end.
“It’s disappointing that we haven’t got something, but we have got lots of positives from the last six games and to win five is credit to all the players and staff,” he said.
“We wanted to make it six (wins) and in the end we probably could have got something out of the game and gone away with a point but it wasn’t to be.
“Credit to Wycombe and credit to Gary (Waddock, manager) because he has assembled a very good team and I believe they will be in the top three at the end of the season.”
