Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler admits his team must now win all four of their remaining games to stand any chance of making the play-offs this season.
After picking up just one point from their two Easter fixtures, the Gills have lost ground on the top seven and face a major challenge to stand any chance of getting out of League 2 this season.
They travel to fellow play-off chasers Oxford this weekend needing a win to give them a glimmer of hope.
Hessenthaler (pictured), who started the season chasing automatic promotion, knows just to make the play-offs is now going to be difficult but is remaining optimistic. He said: "We have to win the next four games if we are going to be realistic about it.
"We have done it before and that’s what we have to hold on to. We have to go to Oxford and win and you never know from there.
"We need to make sure we bounce back. All of a sudden we could win and if results are not bad elsewhere, we could just be a point out of it. We are four points off now and by next week, it could be one."
Gills were facing a six-point gap between themselves and Oxford – who occupy seventh spot and the final play-off place – but their hosts on Saturday conceded a last-minute goal to Torquay on Monday. That narrowed the gap back down to an achievable four points from a previously near-impossible six.
Hessenthaler said: "It is still all to play for and it is now my job to lift them this week and believe we can still achieve something."
