Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler is keen to use pre-season to assess the players he has inherited.
The Gills boss wants to decide quickly whether they have what it takes to be a success in his new-look squad at Priestfield.
"I want to get hold of them now, start working with them and see what characters we’ve got here," said Hessenthaler.
"I’ve got to have a look as there are some players under contract that are taking a bulk of the budget up and they may not be for me.
"I’ll find out in pre-season whether they are for me or not. If they are not, then unfortunately we will try and move them on.
"That’s the nature of the game, the players know that. It’s a level playing field for everyone at the start but if they are not for me then I’ll be honest and say I’m looking for different area and different players."
