Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler got the response he required from his goalshy team as they hit Hereford for six on Saturday.

The Gills had scored just nine goals in their first eight League 2 games but they put the record straight to heap the pressure on Bulls boss Jamie Pitman.

It ended a run of four games without a win for Hessenthaler's men, who had scored just one goal during that time.

"We had to respond, said Hessenthaler (pictured). "We needed a win and it was great that we scored the goals.

"To score six goals was great but as a manager I do have sympathy for Jamie and Hereford, we've all been there.

"We were strong and solid, and took our goals well."

Hessenthaler heaped praise on striker Frank Nouble, who scored the first goal just 19 minutes into his debut after joining on loan from West Ham.

"He gave us another option, a bit more presence alongside Keds and they hit if off straight away," said Hessenthaler.

"He is fantastic when the ball is at his feet. He is a great addition to the squad and we're delighted that we've got him.

"I had the riches of taking two centre-forwards off and putting two on. The penny is dropping with Stefan Payne and I'm delighted that he scored."
