A FAMILY is devastated after a memorial to their teenage son, who died on the notorious A228, was stolen.

The cross for 19-year-old Nicholas Bailey, from Grain, went missing despite being set in concrete.

His stepfather Nick Fleming said: "We can’t work out who would want to do such a thing. Myself and my wife are extremely distraught."

The cross was put up where Nicholas died, at the junction of Malmaynes Hall Road and The Street at Stoke, three years ago. He was the 30th victim of the A228.

* If anyone knows the whereabouts of the memorial they should contact the police on 01634 884212 or call Kent Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
