POLICE have renewed an appeal for witnesses after two friends were assaulted, one seriously, outside a post office in Byron Road at Gillingham.

The incident happened between 3.45pm and 4.15pm on Friday, 24 February, when a stranger apparently took exception to the two victims who had popped into the shop to buy milk.

Police press officer Tessa Hallett said: "In the attack one of the friends received a serious injury that needed surgery.

"The attacker accused the men of staring at him and punched both of them in the face. Then, as one bent down to pick up his baseball cap, the offender kicked him in the face, breaking his jaw."

The man police are seeking is described as white and thought to be be aged between 18 to 22.

PC Hannah Copeland, who is investigating the case, said: “We are keen to identify who was responsible for this apparently unprovoked and very violent assault.

"I would ask anyone who saw either the incident or anyone behaving suspiciously in the area to please contact me”.
