POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the A20 near Maidstone which claimed the life of a lorry driver.

He died instantly when his HGV jack-knifed and overturned shortly before midday on Friday at the Hollingbourne roundabout near the Ramada Hotel.

The driver has not yet been formally identified. His pet dog survived the accident unscathed but was taken to the vets as a precaution.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident which closed part of the A20 for several hours. The lorry, a V-registration articulated HGV, was carrying vinyl flooring.
