Appeal for car driver to contact police after crash

TWO police officers were taken to hospital after their police car overturned after an accident on the A2.

The crash happened at around 6pm on Thursday evening at Cobham.

A red car travelling behind a slow-moving crane pulled out into the second lane to overtake, causing an articulated lorry in that lane to pull into lane three to avoid hitting the car.

But the police car was travelling in the outside lane and was forced into the central reservation and it overturned after hitting a manhole cover.

The two officers, both in their early 40s, were taken to Darent Valley Hospital.

One was still in hospital today suffering from head injuries and a broken wrist, but the second officer was allowed home after being treated for a broken collar-bone.

Police spoke to the driver of the lorry and the crane at the scene of the accident.

Sgt Nick Slivester, the investigating officer, said: "It does appear that the driver of the red car is unaware of what has happened. I would urge them to contact us as soon as possible."
