A Sea Life Centre in Margate is one idea that could come out of a public consultation to decide how to regenerate the Arlington House tower block and the seafront.
Thanet Council has unveiled a planning brief document and the public has until Friday July 11 to comment on it and put forward its thoughts on what it would like to see happen to the area, which includes the dilapidated shopping centre by the flats, the roundabout opposite and the site of the former Sun Deck.
Council planning officer Doug Brown said: “I would like to think this spot could be the right place for a Sea Life centre, but it can only be an idea at this stage.”
The planning brief sets out the type of development the council is prepared to allow for the seafront and is designed to link with a similar document for the Dreamland amusement park site published earlier this year.
In the Arlington brief, residents are being asked if they agree or disagree with issues such as external improvement of Arlington House, new shops and cafes facing the seafront, better pedestrian and cycle links with Dreamland, Margate old town, the High Street and a new attraction such as a Sea Life centre.
Drop in sessions are being held for those interested on Wednesday June 18 from 4pm to 7pm at the council’s main office in Cecil Street, and on Tuesday June 24 from 11am to 2pm in Thanet’s Gateway Plus at the library.
