Arrested lawyer on police bail

A CROWN Prosecution Service lawyer has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Carol Chastney, who heads the trial unit covering Canterbury and Thanet, was taken from her home in Guston, near Dover, last month for questioning by detectives at Tonbridge police station.

She has been suspended from her job and is currently on police bail while the CPS considers whether to prosecute.

The 40-year-old barrister and mother-of-two has been head of the unit since August, 2003, but a CPS spokesman said the allegations do not involve her work as a CPS prosecuter.
