POLICE are investigating a fire that destroyed four wooden chalets in the grounds of a hotel at Cliftonville, near Margate, early today.

The blaze broke out at the rear of the Kingsdown Hotel in Harold Road shortly before 6am. Police scenes of crime officers were called in to sift through the wreckage in the rear garden.

A police spokeswoman said: “We are treating the fire as suspicious until our investigation is complete.”

No-one was injured. Four crews attended the scene including Thanet, Margate and Westgate brigades.
