Boats, churches and castles are among the images welcoming boats into Queenborough Harbour as part of a new mural on the seawall.
The first stage of the mural was unveiled by Mayor of Queenborough Janet Flew after a picnic with Queenborough and Halfway primary schools, whose designs were among those displayed.
Community group Queenborough and Rushenden Action Together invited students, groups and individuals to paint images reflecting the town’s identity onto the warehouse walls at The Gateway, Rushenden Road.
The submissions were judged by Queenborough Town Council, and the best images painted onto the sea wall.
Winners included Danley Middle School pupils, who submitted a picture of semaphore flags spelling Queenborough; Rushenden Community House, with a picture of a church; and Queenborough and Halfway primary schools, who both submitted pictures of boats.
Island artists also contributed, with Graham Benham submitting a painting of a castle, and Julie Bradshaw a picture of groups of rowers.
Judging of designs for the second stage of the mural is expected to take place in the next three to six months. Anyone interested in submitting a design should contact Sarah Ridgway on 01795 418978.
