The Celeste, a glittering boat covered in thousands of mirror tiles, will moor offshore near the Horsebridge Centre to start the festival.
The sea plays a key part in the festival, with an installation called the Drowning of Tuvalu, which aims to raise awareness of climate change issues.
The Biennale continues until Sunday, July 5.
For more information visit the festival’s headquarters, which will be on the seafront by Keams Yard car park.
