Shoppers in Kent will be relieved that supermarkets appear to be keeping a relative tight hold on their prices.

As the squeeze on your wallet tightens, it will be welcome news to families watching their pennies.

In the third of our monthly checks on supermarket prices, we can reveal ASDA has come out top for value-for-money on our selection of goods. However, the goods in the trolley has risen in price by 44p.

The cost of the shopping is also up at Sainsbury's, with the total price rising by 47p.

Tesco remains the most expensive of the three but has dropped in price by 25p.

KentOnline decided to monitor the cost of a trolley of shopping at the three selected supermarkets after rising food prices pushed inflation 3.3 per cent higher than a decade ago.

The figures compare this month - August - with June.

The price of eggs and whole milk across three chosen supermarkets has stayed constant throughout our monitoring.

The latest comparision shows small chickens have gone up in price in all three supermarkets, with Tesco showing as the most expensive, priced at £4.01 - 13p more than two months ago.

However the selected white wine, chocolate biscuits and cheese are now cheaper in price at Tesco than they were back in June.
