Lisa Dobriskey looks to have done enough to secure a place at the London Olympics after a successful weekend at the Aviva 2012 Trials in Birmingham.
The Ashford AC star put her injury nightmare behind her to claim second spot in the 1,500m final, although she was unable to meet the Olympic A qualifying standard.
The 28-year-old New Romney athlete needed to run the qualifying time and secure a top-two finish to guarantee a place at London 2012.
However, her pedigree as 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist – finishing fourth at Beijing Olympics in 2008 and taking silver at the 2009 World Championships, combined with her running two A standards last season before injury struck – look to have secured her one of the three spots for London.
She said: "It’s been extremely difficult. I’ve worked so hard.
"I feel like I’ve climbed a mountain to be here. I wanted to get that second slot to give myself a chance of getting the time.
"I do have two A standards from last year and I was fourth in Beijing and second in Berlin, so I am selectable. Whether or not that means I’ll be selected, I don’t know.
"The two races this weekend have really brought me on. I’m in a much better position than I expected to be in now and it’s up to (the selectors), so fingers crossed."
The clue that her performances at Birmingham had done enough to earn her place was her de-selection from the GB squad for the European Championships in Finland this weekend.
Dozens of athletes who secured Olympic places at the trials, including 400m hurdler Jack Green, were removed from the squad by UK Athletics to focus on the Olympics.
