MP Damian Green has officially launched a major six-month refurbishment project to improve facilities for passengers at Ashford International Station.
The revamp is costing £2.4 million, with £1.2 million provided by the National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP) and a further £1.2 million given by Ashford's Future from central government growth area funding.
Vince Lucas, commercial director, Southeastern said: "The work being undertaken at Ashford is going to benefit all our passengers.
"It will help create an environment where they will feel comfortable and welcome.
"It is an exciting time for the station with the preview high speed services starting recently and this work being completed for the full service in December."
The improvements will include extending the entrance booking hall to include more seating and a coffee bar; two new entrance/exits incorporating automatic doors to the station front; improved lighting on the station concourse; enhanced access and heated waiting area on platforms five and six and additional seating and refurbished toilets on platforms one, two, five and six.
Ashford MP Mr Green said: "Ashford passengers deserve the best facilities at the station to complement the country's best train links.
"I am delighted that these works will be completed in time for the full launch of the high speed services in December.
"This year will be a historic one for travellers from Ashford - high speed domestic trains and a new station."
