Ashley Jackson was on target for England as they enjoyed a famous victory over Australia in the opening game of the hockey World Cup in New Delhi.
The tournament went ahead, despite security concerns in the region, but there were 19,000 police officials around the stadium and an air-force helicopted circled the stadium throughout the match.
After the Kookaburras had opened the scoring the West Malling star and former Tunbridge Wells player equalised against the pre-tournament favourites with a rasping penalty corner flick after 25 minutes and the European champions eventually prevailed 3-2 with James Tindall netting either side of half-time.
It was England's first win over Australia in 25 years and their first in a World Cup since 1975, but Chatham-born Jackson - named World Young player of the Year last year - said he thought England could improve ahead of Tuesday's second pool game against South Africa.
