Striker Antonio German was handed his Gillingham debut just hours after signing on loan at Priestfield.

Boss Martin Allen was keen for an extra addition to his forward line after Coventry recalled striker Cody McDonald from his loan spell.

The former QPR frontman (pictured), who has been restricted to just four substitute appearances at Brentford this season, came on with 15 minutes left of Tuesday night’s match.

Assistant boss John Schofield believes there is plenty to come from the 21-year-old. The Gills No.2 said: "He has come in at the fifth hour and that makes it difficult.

"He got on and got a chance and there is more to come from him. He was nice and positive and he played off the shoulder, competed for the second balls and I thought he was unlucky a couple of times."

German’s deal at Priestfield runs until April 1, making him available up to and including the Easter Monday fixture at home to Rotherham.

The London-born striker started life at QPR and had spells on loan at Aldershot, Southend, Yeovil and Stockport, before leaving the club when they were promoted to the Premier League. A brief spell with Bromley ended when he was snapped up on an 18-month deal by Brentford in January last year.

In his brief appearances this season, he did score an equaliser against Preston but has been largely limited to development games.
