Attack victim's online search leads to arrests

A MUGGING victim identified two people suspected of the offence on a networking website.

The 18-year-old was walking to Margate's Escape nightclub in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, when he became aware of three people tailing him.

The man increased his pace and had reached the junction of Tivoli Avenue and All Saints' Avenue when the group, two young men and a young woman, stopped him.

He had been texting on his mobile and the group asked him if they could use his phone. He declined, saying he was out of credit, but they grabbed it from him and found he had money on it after all.

The victim was then punched several times, leaving him with a gash to his face and two black eyes. The group ran off.

After treatment at the QEQM hospital the victim logged on to the website bebo, on which people can set up profiles and mini-homepages for themselves, and searched through local residents' profiles.

As a result of his search, 17-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were arrested. They were bailed until August 2 pending further enquiries and a Crown Prosecution Service decision to prosecute.
