Spotlites Youth Theatre is offering young people aged 12-30 the chance to audition for Jonathan Larson’s rock musical Rent. The hit Broadway musical and film about life in New York City, is coming to Kings Theatre, Chatham this Easter and Spotlites Youth Theatre is opening the audition to anyone interested in being in one of their high-calibre productions.
Spotlites Youth Theatre is renowned for staging high profile productions to good reviews.
They received two 5-star reviews for their production of The Who’s Tommy which toured to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2006 and last year staged Zombie Prom, the girl-meets-ghoul 50s musical and Shakespeare’s Richard II.
The musical Rent, based on Puccini's opera La Bohème, is best known for songs such as Seasons of Love, One Song Glory, What You Own and I’ll Cover You. It details a year in the lives of seven friends, living the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York's East Village.
The workshop audition costs £5 and takes place on Sunday, January 11 from 6pm to 10pm at Kings Theatre, High Street, Chatham (next to Gala Bingo).
It offers the chance to work with a professional director, choreographer, musical director and technical manager who are all working practitioners in the performing arts industry and who have recently produced the hit professional show Sleeping Beauty and the Time Lords.
Rent takes to the stage from Wednesday, April 15 to Saturday, April 18 at 7.30pm. Tickets: £10/£9.50 concessions.
