Moves to curb energy bills and to freeze business rates are expected to be among key announcements in today's Autumn Statement.
Chancellor George Osborne is expected to announce the measures against a backdrop of signs of gradual improvement in the country's economy.
The statement will set out the government's tax and spending plans based on the economic projections provided independently by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
Reports suggest Mr Osborne will announce rate rises will be limited to 2% in England and Wales next year instead of being linked to inflation.
He will also extend a scheme that offers rate relief to small businesses.
That might bring good news for Kent's many small and medium-sized businesses.
There will also be some better for news for hard-pressed householders facing rising energy bills with confirmation that green levies are to be cut.
The statement will confirm many of the commitments set out in the March budget, including an announcement the personal allowance will rise to £10,000.
He will also confirm that rises in welfare benefits will be limited to 1% for three years.
