A 2.55m sunflower - which is still growing -took a prize at the Tyler Hill Gardenign Society show at the weekend.
This year’s club challenges were to grow on a castor bean plant from a provided plug and to grow the tallest sunflower from a given seed.
The winning plant was nurtured by Diana Seekings and Robin Whiting took the prize for the tallest sunflower - his measured more than 2.55m and is still growing.
The society's competition for the best front garden in the village was won by Jessica Ashdown, of Sunnymead.
The Thomas Philpott Cup for best overall exhibit went to Michael Seekings for his spectacular hanging basket.
The Jack Smith Cup for most points in the adult classes was awarded to Penny Whiting.
A new award, presented for the first time this year, was the Bryan Cover Rose Bowl, in memory of the society’s ex-chairman. The bowl was awarded to current chairman Derek Pestell for his collection of garden roses.
Results: Mary Hogben Cup for vegetables/fruit, Trisha Hulks; Floral Cup for flower arrangements, Jane Marlow and Penny Whiting; Flower Cup and Leslie Fisher Rose Cup, Jennifer Taylor.

Other prize winners in the adult classes included Jessica Ashdown, Sue Crabtree, Lynne Evison, Ray Evison, Emily Humphreys, Katie Humphreys, Richard Humphreys, Judy Keay, Bob Peet, Irene Pellet, Gerry Pestell, Des Redmond, Penny Reilly, Jane Richardson, Diana Seekings, Robert Sotillo, Lynda Ward, Katie Whiting, Robin Whiting and Vicki Whiting.
In the children’s classes the Junior Trophy for the 10s and under was awarded to Charlotte Davison. The Hazel McCabe Junior Trophy went to Charlotte Cane.
Elizabeth Davison took the newly re-instated Playgroup Cup and also won the Edith Flanders Cup for the under fives.
The Tyler Hill Gardening Society Junior Cup for children aged six to 10 went to Bethany Cork. The Tyler Hill Gardening Society Trophy for 11 to 15-year-olds went to Charlotte Cane.
