Make a world of difference just by enjoying a 'cuppa' and a slice of cake at Margate Winter Gardens.

The Big Swap Fairtrade Tea Party on Sunday, February 28, is part of this year's Fairtrade Fortnight, which will this year encourage people to swap their usual groceries for Fairtrade alternatives.

Thanet Fairtrade Initiative, which has organised the free event, has invited local residents to donate a cake no smaller than eight inches in diameter to the event. Recipes must use one or more Fairtrade ingredients, such as cocoa, sugar, chocolate or bananas.

Children aged 12 or younger can also enter a junior category.

The cakes will be judged by a top chef from Quex Barn, Birchington, and prizes will be presented for the best culinary creations.

They will then be sliced up and served with a cup of Fairtrade tea to those who attend the celebrations, which take place from 3pm until 5pm in the Queen's Hall.

Light entertainment will also be provided.

The Big Swap Fairtrade Tea Party is supported by Thanet District Council, Kent County Council, The Co-operative, Tesco, Quex Barn, Margate Winter Gardens and Kent Community Foundation.
